Member Spotlight – The Payne Stewart Kids Golf Foundation
The Payne Stewart Kids Golf Foundation is the fundraising entity behind the Payne Stewart Golf Camps & Learning Leagues, which represents a unique program designed to provide a complete golf learning experience for kids ages 4-9 years old. Using unconventional spaces to bring golf to the masses, the camps and leagues make any gymnasium or soccer field a golf learning center to teach children the fundamentals of both golf and life.
Payne’s ongoing legacy is the inspiration behind the Foundation. As a PGA TOUR personality, Payne became one of the game’s most beloved and recognized players, known as an entertainer, jokester, and golf fashion icon. But those closest to him knew him as a family man and a devoted, fun-loving husband and father. Payne had a deep and growing faith that shaped him into the legend that continues to inspire well beyond his tragic death in 1999.
Indeed, Payne was best known to his family and closest friends for three things: faith, family, and the fun he had with golf. Today, this legacy lives on in the annual PGA TOUR Payne Stewart Award, presented by Southern Company, given to the PGA player who best epitomizes charity, character, and sportsmanship both on and off the course.
Payne Stewart Golf Camps & Learning Leagues advance Payne’s vision of sending more kids-in-need to summer camps by creating new golf spaces that give more families with kids the ability to learn and play golf. This is the first and only golf learning program to combine fun, games-based play with modified, age-appropriate golf equipment and faith-based life skills curriculum.
The Foundation’s goal is to support this introduction to golf program by raising funds to help expand the camp locations, provide adequate equipment, give families in need an opportunity to participate, and assist with other donation opportunities.
